WILMINGTON, DE (December 1, 2015) — The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is pleased to announce the statewide nonprofit organization’s first financial investment in funding local research in the fight against breast cancer. Beginning December 1, 2015, graduate students attending a Delaware university will be eligible to apply for a $1,000 Research Travel Grant to attend an academic conference related to breast cancer. Applications are available on the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition website, http://www.debreastcancer.org and due by February 28, 2016.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s Research Travel Grant is open to all 2nd year Masters Students and 3rd year PhD students with an interest in breast cancer who attend a university in the state of Delaware. To be eligible to apply, the student must have a paper or poster accepted at a national meeting such as the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Conference, or the American Association for Cancer Research. Typical expenses that may be paid from these grants include conference fees, travel, and lodging. Applicants must complete the digital application and must commit to presenting their research findings at the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s Breast Cancer Update in April 2017 in Dover, Delaware.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.
Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent Counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.
DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and their research efforts by helping to facilitate participation in local clinical trials. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and the neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
