REHOBOTH BEACH, DE (March 23, 2015)—The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is pleased to announce the Sixth Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk will take place at the Tanger Outlet Center in Rehoboth Beach on Sunday, May 17, 2015. This year’s race is presented by Schagrin Gas, produced by Races2Run, and sponsored in part by Tanger Outlets. The Run/Walk is a family-friendly event open to participants of all ages. All money raised will benefit DBCC’s programs and services to support those touched by breast cancer in Delaware and the surrounding communities.
The Sixth Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer Run/Walk will be held (rain or shine) at the Tanger Outlet Center’s Seaside location (36470 Seaside Outlet Drive, Rehoboth, DE) and will follow a 5K course that will loop through part of the Breakwater Trail. Registration is $25 per person noon on before May and $30 for day-of registration. Online registration is open at http://www.defeetbreastcancerwalk.org. Participants will partake in the chip timed 5K Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m. or a 1-Mile Fun Walk at 8:05 a.m.
“We are really proud that DE-feet brings together nearly 1,200 people each year,” said Vicky Cooke, DBCC Executive Director. “We attracted participants from over fifteen states last year; families, children, and adults of all ages. It is comforting to see people coming together to support or remember someone in their life who has been touched by breast cancer.”
Registration will open at 7 a.m. and pre-race activities begin at 7:55 a.m. featuring live music and a special “Circle of Hope” survivor celebration. Tech t-shirts are guaranteed for pre-registered participants and Tanger outlet coupons are available. After the race, there will be a party under the tent with a food court, wine and beer garden, and awards for top finishers in various age categories. Team and individual spirit awards will also be presented. Racers and participants are encouraged to wear PINK.
“Team building and fundraising is encouraged as part of the 5K,” stated Vicky Cooke. “Last year, we raised over $60,000 and over one third of that revenue came from team fundraising. Many of the teams came up with creative costumes, imaginative names, and really had fun with it. People can donate to a team even if they cannot come out to the race.” Teams can fundraise by holding a car wash, collecting change, or holding a bake sale.
Major sponsor’s to-date include Schagrin Gas, Sposato Landscape Co., Tanger Outlets, and WBOC. Additional sponsors will be disclosed at the event. Proceeds from the Sixth Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk will benefit DBCC’s programs which increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to women and men in the local community who are newly diagnosed or facing recurrence of breast cancer. DBCC supports NBCC’s mission to end breast cancer by “Deadline 2020”.

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.
Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent Counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.
DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and their research efforts by helping to facilitate participation in local clinical trials. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and the neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
