REHOBOTH BEACH, DE (April 6, 2017)—The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is pleased to announce the Eighth Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk will take place at the Tanger Outlet Center (Seaside) in Rehoboth Beach on Sunday, May 21, 2017. This year’s race is produced by Races2Run, and sponsored in part by Tanger Outlets. The Run/Walk is a family-friendly event open to participants of all ages. All money raised will benefit DBCC’s programs and services to support those touched by breast cancer in Delaware and the surrounding communities.

The Eighth Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer Run/Walk will be held (rain or shine) at the Tanger Outlet Center’s Seaside location (36470 Seaside Outlet Drive, Rehoboth, DE) and will follow a new 5K course. Registration is $25 per person before May 17 and $30 for day-of registration. Online registration is open at http://www.defeetbreastcancerwalk.org. Participants will partake in the chip timed 5K Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m. or a 1-Mile Fun Walk at 8:35 a.m. Packet pickup will be available on Saturday, May 20 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Crooked Hammock Brewery in Lewes.

“It’s time to lace up and register for the DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K! Each year we bring together hundreds of people in the community for this fun and spirited event for a great cause.” said Beth Krallis, DBCC Communications Director.  “Our event raises funds to support local breast cancer programs and it also brings together families, children, and adults of all ages to raise awareness for a terrible disease.”

Registration will open at 7 a.m. and pre-race activities begin at 7:55 a.m. featuring music and entertainment. The morning will kick off with a special “Circle of Hope” survivor celebration and the release of white doves. Tech t-shirts are guaranteed for pre-registered participants. After the race, there will be a party with music, a food court, wine and beer garden, the Starboard’s Famous Bloody Mary Bar and awards for top finishers in various age categories. Team and individual spirit awards will also be presented. Racers and participants are encouraged to wear PINK.

“Team building and fundraising is encouraged as part of the 5K,” stated Beth Krallis. “There are no team minimums so we really want to encourage people to participate. Over 800 women in Delaware are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. The money raised at this event will assist those ladies with support like a trained peer mentor, clinical trials education, wigs, prostheses, financial support and so much more.”

Major sponsor’s to-date include Sposato Landscape Co., Tanger Outlets, WBOC 16/Fox 21, The Meoli Companies, Edgewell Personal Care, The Crooked Hammock, State Farm – Jeanine O’Donnell, Tudor Electric, Eagle 977, and CM Baker Photography. Additional sponsors will be disclosed at the event. Proceeds from the Eighth Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk will benefit DBCC’s programs which increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to women and men in the local community who are newly diagnosed or facing recurrence of breast cancer.

About DBCC:

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.

Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent Counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.

DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and their research efforts by helping to facilitate participation in local clinical trials. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and the neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
