WILMINGTON, DE (February 8, 2016) — The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is calling for nominations for the 2016 Shining Light Awards. The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition “Shining Light Awards” recognize those individuals, businesses and healthcare institutions who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the early detection and treatment of breast cancer in the Greater Delaware region and who have served to motivate and inspire others to be champions of the cause. Nomination forms are available on the DBCC website, http://www.debreastcancer.org and due by March 4, 2016.
The award categories include: Spotlight on Philanthropy, Spotlight on Survivorship, Spotlight on Healthcare Delivery and Research, and Spotlight on Business or Organization. Winners will be selected by an independent selection committee in spring 2016. More than one winner may be selected in each category at the discretion of the selection committee. The Award Recipients will be honored at an Annual Recognition reception. DBCC board members may not apply.
The Shining Light Awards began in 2014 as the first breast cancer recognition awards offered in the state of Delaware. They are meant to motivate and inspire others to work together to end breast cancer. The 2015 award winners were the Sussex County Women’s Council of Realtors, Spotlight on Philanthropy; Jacquie Connell, Spotlight on Survivorship; Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Research Institute at Christiana Care, Spotlight on Healthcare Delivery; and Delmarva Broadcasting of Central Delaware, Spotlight on Business. All proceeds from the Shining Light Awards will benefit DBCC’s programs that increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to men and women in the local community who are newly diagnosed or facing a recurrence of breast cancer.
All materials must be submitted electronically on the DBCC website, http://www.debreastcancer.org no later than March 4, 2016. For more information about the Shining Light Awards nominations, upcoming reception, and sponsorship opportunities, please call 302-778-1102.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.
Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent Counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.
DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and their research efforts by helping to facilitate participation in local clinical trials. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and the neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
