DOVER, DE (August 10, 2016)— The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is revving up for the Seventh Annual “Monster Miles for a Cause” Walk at Dover International Speedway on Saturday, October 22. The un-timed walk, which takes place during breast cancer awareness month, is a family friendly event for supporters to step onto the NASCAR track to benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. The event is hosted by Dover International Speedway, located on North Dupont Highway in Dover.
Attendees are encouraged to walk in honor or in memory of someone in their life that has been impacted by breast cancer. The event will also include food, vendors, and team prizes. Registration will begin at 8:00 am and the walk steps off at 10am. To register online visit http://www.debreastcancer.org.
Monster Miles will be held rain or shine and costs $20 per individual in advance and $25 for day-of registration. Individuals can also participate as part of a team. Children 12 and under can walk for free with an adult. New this year, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition will have a beer garden after the race along with a souvenir for each participant. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
“Monster Miles is always a great family friendly event for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition during breast cancer awareness month,” said Vicky Cooke, Executive Director of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. “It brings together families and friends from all ages to honor, celebrate, and remember those who have been touched by breast cancer.”
All proceeds from “Monster Miles for a Cause” will benefit DBCC’s programs and services that work to increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms and bilingual screening navigators and offer support and resources to men and women in our local community who are newly diagnosed or facing a recurrence of breast cancer. The 2015 event raised over $14,000 for DBCC’s local programs.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.
Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent Counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.
DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and their research efforts by helping to facilitate participation in local clinical trials. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and the neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
