To The Editor:

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition does not solicit funds via the telephone.  We have received numerous calls stating that telemarketers are soliciting funds over the telephone for “breast cancer research” and the “breast cancer society”.  Many of these calls targeted survivors, often noting their personal and medical information.  If you receive a telephone solicitation on behalf of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, it is a scam.  And, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition complies with all HIPAA and confidentiality laws.

These mis-identified telephone solicitations are frequently fraudulent scams and divert hard-earned dollars from well-meaning and caring individuals.  The people in Delaware and surrounding communities are very supportive of charitable causes, helping people during difficult times and contributing to organizations who make a real difference.

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition works very hard to help people understand where their contributions are going and how effectively they will be used.  Our donors are well-acquainted with our programs and with our support and resources for those women and men fighting breast cancer.

As always, make sure you research the organization to which you are donating.  If you feel you have been solicited in a fraudulent manner, please contact the Delaware Attorney General’s office.
