MILFORD, DE (June 3, 2015)—The Milford Chamber of Commerce (CCGM) and Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) are pleased to announce that the Fourth Annual Girl’s Night Out Fundraiser held on May 1 at Harrington Raceway raised $10,000 for the Milford community. The proceeds from the fashion show and auction featuring the Marvelous Men of Milford were split between the DBCC to support local breast cancer programs and services and the CCGM to support the daily operations.

The check presentation took place on Friday, May 29 outside the Milford Chamber. DBCC’s Program Director of Education and Outreach in Kent and Sussex Counties Cheryl Doucette, who helped organize the Girls Night Out fundraiser was very happy with the success of this year’s event. She said, “Girls Night Out is always a terrific evening. We have a great community of supporters in Milford, who come out for the fashion show and fun. We are able to share our message of breast health and bring the community together in a very unique way. We are so proud of our successful fundraising efforts each year.”

The 2015 Marvelous Man was Frank Payton of Techno Goober. He won for raising the most money and modeling his “Uber Goober” attire. New this year was a Marvelous Mascot Contest. Ross Cat, from LuLu Ross Elementary School was the winner in this category. Girls Night Out was sponsored in part by Blooming Boutique, Delmarva Broadcasting, the Delaware State News and Milford Chronicle and i.g. Burton. Fifty percent of the proceeds from Girls Night Out will benefit DBCC’s programs that increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to men and women in the local community who are newly diagnosed or facing a recurrence of breast cancer. The rest of the proceeds will support the CCGM.

About DBCC:

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.

Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent Counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.

DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and their research efforts by helping to facilitate participation in local clinical trials. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and the neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
