REHOBOTH BEACH, DE (March 19, 2018)—The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is pleased to announce the Ninth Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Walk will take place at the Tanger Outlet Center in Rehoboth Beach on Sunday, May 20, 2018. The race is produced by Races2Run, and sponsored in part by Tanger Outlets. The Run/Walk is a family-friendly event open to participants of all ages. All money raised will benefit DBCC’s programs and services to support those touched by breast cancer in Delaware and the surrounding communities.
“We are looking forward to another successful DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K. Each year, DE-feet brings together hundreds of people from the Delaware region and beyond for this fun and spirited event to raise awareness and proceeds for those affected by breast cancer in Delaware” said Beth Krallis, DBCC Communications Director. “This event welcomes families, children, and adults of all ages to support and remember those affected by this awful disease.”
The DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K and Fun Walk will be held (rain or shine) at the Tanger Outlet Center’s Seaside location (36470 Seaside Outlet Drive, Rehoboth, DE). Registration is $25 per person before May 17 and $30 for day-of registration. Online registration is open at http://www.defeetbreastcancerwalk.org.
Registration will open at 7 a.m. and pre-race activities begin at 7:55 a.m. featuring music, entertainment, and a special survivor celebration. Participants will partake in the chip timed 5K Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m. or a 1-Mile Fun Walk at 8:35 a.m. After the race, there will be a party with music, a food court, wine and beer garden, the Starboard’s Famous Bloody Mary Bar and awards for top finishers in various age categories. Team and individual spirit awards will also be presented. The inaugural Kim Miller Award Medal will be presented for the first place overall run finisher. The award celebrates the life and legacy of Kimberly Miller, a friend of DBCC who battled stage four breast cancer for 16 months until she passed away in October of 2011 at age 28. Pre-packet pickup will be available on Saturday, May 19 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Crooked Hammock Brewery in Lewes.
Event sponsors to date include Tanger Outlets, WBOC 16/Fox 21, The Crooked Hammock, Sposato Landscape Co., Jiffy Lube of Lewes, and Coach Rehoboth. Additional sponsors will be disclosed at the event. Proceeds from the Ninth Annual DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K will benefit DBCC’s programs, which increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms and cervical screenings, and provide support and resources to women and men in the local community who are newly diagnosed or facing recurrence of breast cancer.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.
Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent Counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.
DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and their research efforts by helping to facilitate participation in local clinical trials. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and the neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
