MILFORD, DE (March 12, 2015)—The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC), with support from Discover Bank, the Laffey-McHugh Foundation, the Multicultural Church and Community Center, and the Milford Lions Club, is proud to announce the next ¡VIDA!™ Multicultural Breast Screening and Health Fair will take place at the Multicultural Church and Community Center in Milford on Saturday, March 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The program will be FREE and offer health screenings, information about healthy living, community programs, free giveaways and additional resources to the public.

¡VIDA!™ is a multicultural event focused on breast cancer screening, treatment, and survivorship. It began in 2011 as a bilingual (Spanish/English) educational event that has grown to include all backgrounds and ethnicities, and offers programs to women, men, and children.

The Milford forum will feature clinical breast exams on-site from Bayhealth Nurse Practitioner, Cindy Martin, mammograms by appointment and additional health screenings and insurance information from many vendors including Beebe Healthcare Community Health. For an appointment for a mammogram on the Women’s Mobile Health Screening Van, please call 1-888-672-9647. Food and snacks will be provided, along with free clothing giveaways and emergency food bags. Entertainment for the children will also be provided, featuring a kid’s corner with activities and a magic show.

Cheryl Doucette, Outreach and Education Program Manager for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition in Kent County said, “DBCC has been working with Pastor Richie Portalatin of the Multicultural Church for months to plan our Milford ¡VIDA!™. The Pastor has lent so much time and support to ensuring the program will be a success, offering healthy living information and lifesaving screenings to families in need in the Kent and Sussex Community.”

The Multicultural Church and Community Center is located at 105 Northeast Front Street in Milford. The State of Delaware’s Women’s Mobile Health Screening (WMHS) Van will be on-site to provide screening mammograms (with a prescription from a doctor). Additional ¡VIDA!™ forums will be held on April 25 in Georgetown and October 3 in Dover. Please contact Cheryl Doucette at 302-672-6435 for additional information.

About DBCC:

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.

Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent Counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.

DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and their research efforts by helping to facilitate participation in local clinical trials. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and the neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
