The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC), in partnership with the Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia, are proud to announce the next ¡VIDA!™ Multicultural Breast Screening and Health Fair will take place at the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware in Seaford on Saturday, April 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The program will be FREE and offer health screenings, information about healthy living, community programs, free giveaways and additional resources to the public. The program is made possible by support from Discover Bank, the Laffey-McHugh Foundation, Astra Zeneca, Boys and Girls Club of Delaware, Beebe Healthcare, Highmark Delaware, and the National Association of Hispanic Nurses.

¡VIDA!™ is a multicultural event focused on breast cancer screening, treatment, and survivorship. It began in 2011 as a bilingual (Spanish/English) educational event that has grown to include all backgrounds and ethnicities, and offers programs to women, men, and children. The Seaford forum will feature clinical breast exams on-site and additional health screenings such as glucose, cholesterol, BMA, DEXA, and blood pressure provided by Beebe Healthcare. The Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia mobile consulate will be available from 8:30 am to 2pm to help with Passports and matricula consular and Birth certificates. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 877.639.4835 or visiting http://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/filadelfia/. Food and snacks will be provided, along with free clothing giveaways. Families are welcome.

Cheryl Doucette, Outreach and Education Program Manager for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition in Kent County said, “The April 23 ¡VIDA!™ in Seaford is extremely important to members of our community. These free medical tests can be lifesaving to someone who is never or rarely screened. We will have bilingual volunteers on site to help translate medical results and provide support to all our attendees.”

The Seaford Boys and Girls Club is located on 310 Virginia Avenue in Seaford. The next ¡VIDA!™ forum will be held on October 1st, 2016. Please contact Cheryl Doucette at 302-423-1119 for additional information.

About DBCC:

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.

Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent Counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for breast health. DBCC helps women with low incomes and those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care.

DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and their research efforts by helping to facilitate participation in local clinical trials. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and the neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
