Inner Art Workshop for People with Cancer

September 15, 2010 2:30 to 4:00 pm

Join us for 90 minutes of relaxation through art. We will be painting on canvas with acrylic paints. No skills are required! Gentle instruction will be provided.  Come together with us as we relax, take a brief break from worry and share in a warm and comfortable setting with local artist Jacqueline Connell.

We will sail the Delaware Bay and learn the history of the Kalmar Nyckel.
The original Kalmar Nyckel was one of America’s pioneering colonial ships that sailed from Sweden to the New World in 1638 leaving its passengers to establish the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley.

The cost is $25.00 and we will meet at the Cape May/Lewes Ferry dock @ 3:30. Be prepared to help hoist the sails and have a fun afternoon of sailing!! The first 16 to respond are guaranteed a spot!!!

The 13th Annual Breast Cancer Update at Delaware Technical Community College in Dover features morning keynote speaker Dr. Len Lichtenfeld, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, American Cancer Society, and afternoon keynote speaker Kelly Corrigan, author of the New York Times best-selling book The Middle Place and the just-released book Lift. This annual one-day educational forum is free and open to the public and has become one of Delaware’s most trusted sources of up-to-date breast cancer information. The event features discussions by panels of breast cancer experts and attracts crowds of physicians, nurses, breast cancer survivors and advocates each year. Inaugural Ace for a Cause

The Ace for a Cause Women’s Tennis Tournament, set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21, will be presented by the Dave Marshall Tennis Academies at The Plantations, 18464 Plantations Blvd. in Lewes, to benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition Inc. The tournament is open to all USTA-rated players and will be a women’s doubles round robin format.

Spectators are welcome and invited to stay for lunch ($10 fee), join in the 50/50 raffle, bid on items in the silent auction and partake in the shopping extravaganza provided by local retailers and vendors – all ways to help raise additional funds for the fight against breast cancer in Delaware.

Registration is limited and on a first-come/first-served basis. The $50 per person entry fee includes tournament participation, lunch at The Plantations, and a pink tennis shirt and “goodie-bag.”

We have scheduled our Volunteer Outreach Training for Monday February 1, 2010 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm. Attending the training is not required to volunteer – but it certainly helps! We are trying to hold the trainings at least quarterly so you will have other opportunities to attend.

Learn about the history and mission of the DBCC, programs and services offered and basic breast health to be able to confidently staff tables and interact with individuals at health fairs, community events and fundraisers.

Nurture with Nature: Amish Hayride and Bonfire

Please join the Henry and Clara Miller family for a horse driven hayride and bonfire on their farm near Cheswold. Take a moonlit ride on the horse drawn hay wagon around the Miller farm during a full moon. Enjoy hot dogs, s’mores, cider and other refreshments as we relax on bales of hay circling a huge bonfire!
