Peer Mentor Support

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition Peer Mentor Support Program provides free one-on-one support and education to those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. When you are diagnosed with breast cancer, it is often helpful to speak with someone who is a survivor and who has been through a similar breast cancer journey.

DBCC Peer Mentors are trained breast cancer survivors who wish to reach out to help and support others with breast cancer. We have a large network of young breast cancer survivors eager and willing to help other young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer.

The DBCC has taken on a key role in providing education about clinical trials to those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. DBCC Peer Mentors are prepared to help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients understand why clinical trials are important, how they work, how they advance cancer care and research, and how participants are protected.

Mentors participate in a 3-hour training that presents topics such as listening skills, the mentorship role, confidentiality, problem solving, handling difficult situations, and reporting requirements. Trainees learn through lecture, interactive activities and role plays. Trainings are held as needed in each county.

If you are a survivor who has finished treatment and are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact the Peer Mentor Program Coordinator in your area:
