Women's Mobile Health Screening
The Women’s Mobile Health Screening van is back on the road and better than ever. With the latest in digital imaging equipment, and health professionals from Beebe Medical Center, the van brings mammography services to locations throughout the state convenient to the women who need them.
The State of Delaware, in collaboration with Women’s Mobile Health Screening, LLC,(WMHS) a subsidiary of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, provides mobile mammogarphy services to low income, uninsured, women through the Screening for Life (SFL) program. Women who qualify for the SFL program may receive free mammography services. WMHS accepts Medicaid, Medicare, most health insurance and self-pay clients. WMHS staff can help you apply for Screening for Life or find another program that can help cover the cost of your mammogram.
Mobile mammography units undergo more quality assurance testing than hospital-based units, and the equipment, employee qualifications and quality assurance records are inspected annually. A prescription from a medical professional for a mammogram is required. HIPPA Law guarantees the privacy of patient records.
Who Can Be Screened On the Van? All women can be screened on the van, but check with your health insurance provider to find out whether they will cover the screening or not. Most women screened on the van are age 40 or older. If you have a problem with your breasts, or have had breast cancer, you should not be screened on the van.
What If I Don’t Have Health Insurance? You may be eligible for free or low-cost screenings through Screening for Life, a Program of Delaware’s Division of Public Health, or another program. Call 1-888-672-WMHS (9647) for more information.
When Will the Van Be in My Community? The van regularly visits Claymont, Wilmington, New Castle, Dover, Lewes/Rehoboth Beach, Seaford, and Frankford and many additional sites.
