At the 2019 cocktail award reception, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition will be honoring Incyte Charitable Giving Foundation, as well as The Benjamin Potter Charity Trust, a fund administered by the CenDel and Delaware Community Foundations.

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition has selected Incyte Charitable Giving Foundation, as well as The Benjamin Potter Charity Trust, a fund administered by the CenDel and Delaware Community Foundations, as the 2019 Shining Light honorees in recognition of their significant contributions to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalitions Breast Care Assistance Fund. Without their generous support, the DBCC would not be able to connect as many women and men facing breast cancer with financial support.

“I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer, three months after my son lost his father. A month later I was replaced after 5 1/2 years from my job because my doctor appointments and chemo would get in the way of me working. I was trying to wrap my head around my recent diagnosis but now I had to worry about keeping a roof over my son’s head and how I was going to pay my bills while fighting cancer.  With the help of the social workers at Helen F. Graham Center I was connected to Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and they helped me out with paying some of my major bills to take the stress off and focus on my health.  I am very appreciative of all the help.”  -Jenn

The Breast Care Assistance Fund is a critical service that DBCC is proud to offer. It was established to provide emergency funding and support to residents of Delaware undergoing treatment for breast cancer and facing financial barriers. The Fund offers assistance for basic household bills and living expenses including mortgage/rent, utilities, and childcare, along with transportation, medical expenses, respite care, and survivorship services.  Often this assistance helps cover the upfront deductibles and at times the actual cost of specific cancer treatments and medications which might otherwise be omitted due to the incredibly high cost to purchase.

As of May 2019, the Shining Light Awards are made possible due to generous support from Highmark Delaware, Delaware Today, Delaware Electric Cooperative, Delaware Imaging Network, Christiana Care Health System, SEI Investments, WSFS Bank, Delaware Community Foundation, Marilyn Hyte, Yvonne and Brock Vinton, Rena and John Howard, Patti Key, Carol Levin, Dr. Denis Witmer, FACS and Dr. Diana-Dickson-Witmer, FACS.

She offered support and leadership to so many survivors, members of the medical community, business leaders, and friends, with distinguished grace and humility.
