DBCC takes over Rally at the Creek Golf Tournament

This year, the future of the annual Rally at the Creek Golf Tournament seemed uncertain. The
organizers who had nurtured the event for 27 years were stepping down, without anyone ready to continue the tradition. Recognizing the tournament’s role in fundraising efforts, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) took the reins and plans to carry on this legacy for years to come. Through the support of local businesses and a revitalized auction featuring trips and cruises, the 28 Annual Rally at the Creek Golf Tournament took place on Aug. 20-21, 2024. This year’s theme, “Flamingos Flocking for a Cause,” couldn’t have been more fitting, despite many people thinking the event wasn’t even happening this year, community members still came out to support the cause. Frank Lotman, an attendee who purchased one of the trips during this year’s auction, shared his “why” behind supporting the event.

“My reason for supporting such a great cause is because we have been impacted by many people that are near and dear to us with this horrible disease, and it’s my pleasure to help fight this battle and find a cure.” “This event, important to so many who have been impacted by breast cancer personally or through a loved one, shows what a community can do when united together for a worthy cause,” DBCC representatives said. “There is fun in fundraising, of course, and that was evident in this year’s array of auction items.”

There were a variety of vacations offered as a part of the auction this year: Alaska Land & Sea
Travel Package, Colorful Costa Rica, Greek Islands, Ireland: The Emerald Isle, James Bond,
Sedona, Taste of Tuscany, Wine, Wonders and Romance of France.

DBCC representatives thanked those who supported and attended the event and said they are
forward to seeing an even larger crowd in 2025. The event is open to the public.

Donors and volunteers included: Cripple Creek’s Brian Trout, Joe Gemma and restaurant staff, Andy Hewitt and golf staff, grounds staff, Eliza Crans and Andy Beebe. Special thanks were offered to: Pat Inman, Barbara Rica, Diane Herman, Nancy Poole, Diann King; underwriter Allison Stine (breakfast); Golf Course, Kings Creek Country Club; DJ Brian K Baull, BKH Entertainment; merchants Atlantic Shoals Surf Shop, DBCC’s Nurture with Nature, Bethany Beach Books, Bethany Beach Comics & Gaming, SoDel Concepts, Tickled Pink, Jan Parsons, Penguin restaurant, Coastal Wilds, DiFebo’s Restaurants & Market, Michael Kors, Weis Markets; and volunteers, Merck Employees—Millsboro (Donna, Gabby, Jennifer, Hannah, Erica), and Bear Trap Dunes Lady Golfers (Marie, Sue, Bobbi, Sally, Maria, Amber, Lori).
