After yet another incredible sell-out event of over 5,000 people, we are looking forward to the magic of Dewey Goes Pink in 2026! We will again open registration for our 5K Walk/Race and 1 Mile Fun Walk on August 1st – so set your alarm as we are sure to sell out in record time.
We are excited to also open our online auction on August 1st! We will continue to add items up until the day of the race so be sure to check back. The best part about our online auction is you do not have to be in town to join in on the fun, and you can scroll the prizes in advance of our event! We continue to try and adapt ways to make this event terrific knowing there are a lot of folks onsite this beautiful October afternoon.
Dewey Goes Pink has grown into a day (more like a weekend!) that is very special to so many folks each in their own way. For their own loved ones, their own friends, or their own family members. It’s rewarding to all here at The Starboard who are involved in facilitating such a great day, but it’s all of you who attend that make it so memorable and special for all.
What makes this event truly special is what we do best here in Dewey Beach…the Party! The race kicks off promptly at 11 a.m., with a delicious spread served by Bethany Blues BBQ following the race, live music, and plenty of refreshing cold beer, seltzers, and Pink Grapefruit Crushes! With the gracious support of our neighbors, The Starboard takes over Saulsbury Street to host thousands for an afternoon of hugs, tears, smiles, and so much fun with music from Kristen & The Noise and Bryen O’boyle of Mr. Greengenes. It’s going to be another terrific Saturday afternoon in Dewey Beach.

More than just a 5k…
Dewey Goes Pink means more than just a fun 5k for many. For most attendees, it is a day to honor, support, and remember those lost to breast cancer by keeping their names and memories alive and uniting in a space that fosters fun and forging of a family of fighters. No matter your background, everyone is united by the cause.
One story in particular that we would like to highlight is the story of Julia Wise and her courageous battle against breast cancer.
Julia Wise was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 24 with Metastatic Breast Cancer (stage IV).
Julia attended Polytech High School, then continued her education at Shippensburg University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. She was a hard-driven athlete and had a competitive spirit on and off the field, a force to be reckoned with. After graduating college, Julia began her pursuit to become a nurse, following in the footsteps of her mother and sister. She enrolled in an accelerated nursing program at Gwynedd Mercy University and moved to Philadelphia, all while receiving treatments at the University of Penn. Julia found tranquility in the sun’s unwavering commitment to rising again daily, and she too, did the same. She had finished all but one semester at Gwynedd Mercy and was set to graduate from the nursing program in May 2021. Julia originally participated in Dewey Goes Pink with her family and friends under the team name Wise Will Rise.
Julia passed on February 11, 2021, just a few months shy of her graduation at the age of 26.
As a result of Julia’s passing the team name shifted from Wise Will Rise, to Team Julia which has grown to be the largest team at Dewey Goes Pink ever since.

“I can’t express the amount of gratitude for the people who opened their hearts along with their wallets to donate towards a great fundraising event, in my heart I know the money that was raised will help individuals who are dealing with such a nasty disease.
There are a lot of people who are affected by Breast Cancer every day in one way or another, and these people need to continue the bond so that these fundraising efforts will help extinguish this disease. My family is very grateful to be a part of this event and have been able to share the day and Julia and her legacy with everyone for the tenth annual Dewey Goes Pink. Stay safe and God Bless.”

These funds are critical to DBCC’s mission, especially in Sussex County. Funds from previous years were used to purchase a DBCC van which provides transportation for Sussex County survivors to upstate survivorship events! How Dewey Goes Pink Makes an Impact!
All the funds raised through Dewey Goes Pink go to support our local Sussex County Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s (DBCC) mission to “empower our community by raising awareness of breast health issues and increasing access to care through outreach, education, and support services, to facilitate early detection and treatment of breast cancer.”
The impact we have made on the community is indescribable – and we could not continue to help our local community without your support. In 2025, we donated $380,276 to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition bringing our 14-year donation total to over $2.3 million!
As a direct result of the funding provided by the Annual Dewey Goes Pink Donation, last year the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition was able to provide the following assistance and support in Sussex County.
- DBCC helped support and serve 499 breast cancer survivors who live in Sussex County in fiscal year 2024-2025.
- DBCC was able to host 215 events for breast cancer survivors in Sussex County in fiscal year 2024-2025.
- DBCC has trained 88 active Certified DBCC Peer Mentors who live in Sussex County.
- DBCC helped to coordinate and ensure the completion of 424 (270 last year) mammograms in Sussex County in fiscal year 2024-2025.
- DBCC helped to transport 161 breast cancer survivors in the DBCC Survivorship Van in fiscal year 2024-2025.
Dewey Goes Pink funds directly support the 15-passenger van which was purchased using Dewey Goes Pink Funds to assist survivors in accessing support groups, educational events, and activities that they might otherwise be unable to attend due to transportation limitations.
Additionally, the event helped DBCC establish programs such as “My Sister’s Keeper” and the “Campeonas Project” in Sussex County.
The DBCC Survivorship Van proves a vital role in connecting breast cancer survivors from Sussex County.
One breast cancer survivor who said she was from the beach shared her story at the Nurture with Nature event in Smyrna. For year she has avoided driving after dark, she acknowledged she “never would have been able to come” if Meridith hadn’t provided a ride in the 15-passenger vehicle which picked her up from her home in Sussex County.
The van is on the road constantly; successfully transporting, supporting, and socializing survivors, ultimately strengthening communities statewide!
