Dewey Goes Pink Raises a Record-Breaking Fundraiser for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition

Dewey Goes Pink Raises a Record-Breaking $365,000 for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.

Dewey Beach, Delaware – Dewey Goes Pink, held on October 5, 2024, raised a record-breaking $365,000 for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC). This annual event, loved and anticipated by the community in Dewey Beach and beyond, has raised over $1.5 million in its 13 years. Over 5,000 people came out to support the cause. DBCC’s CEO, Francesca Vogel, attended the event and shared, “It’s humbling to see how many people have been touched by breast cancer here in Delaware and come out to support Dewey Goes Pink, now 13 years strong! Volunteers, sponsors, and the community brought their passion to help sustain the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission while thousands of walkers, runners, and amazing teams united on this one special day to support the life-saving programs of DBCC. We’re very grateful to Monty and his team at the Starboard Foundation for all their hard work in supporting DBCC in facilitating early detection and support for all impacted by breast cancer throughout our local communities.”

Dewey Goes Pink funding enabled DBCC to expand its reach and support for breast cancer survivors in Sussex County. Most recently, DBCC used Dewey Goes Pink funds to purchase a 15-passenger van to assist survivors in accessing support groups, educational events, and activities that they might otherwise be unable to attend due to transportation limitations. Additionally, the event helped DBCC establish programs such as “My Sister’s Keeper” and the “Campeonas Project” in Sussex County.

DBCC is able to provide a variety of services to constituents in Sussex County. These programs & services would not be possible without Dewey Goes Pink!

· DBCC helped support and serve 498 breast cancer survivors who live in Sussex County in fiscal year 2023-2024.

· DBCC was able to host 197 events for breast cancer survivors in Sussex County in fiscal year 2023-2024.

· DBCC has trained 76 active Certified DBCC Peer Mentors who live in Sussex County.

· DBCC helped to coordinate and ensure the completion of 270 mammograms in Sussex County in fiscal year 2023-2024.

Every year, the charged atmosphere of this event brings people together, sharing their personal connections with breast cancer and driving everyone to fight breast cancer together. As DBCC’s Director of Survivorship, Connie Holdridge, notes, “Dewey goes pink brings out the best in people.”

Special thanks to Steve ‘Monty’ Montgomery of The Starboard and Adam Howard of The Body Shop Fitness Center for putting together this incredible event year after year! The dedication and hard work does not go unnoticed.

In addition to all of the exciting Dewey Goes Pink activities, Monty’s daughter, Savannah Montgomery, is following in her father’s footsteps with a charitable endeavor of her own. Her senior high school project, We Smile Waves of Pink, provided a family who went through the challenges of breast cancer with a vacation in 2024, and she is planning to offer another trip in 2025.
